Helpful

I mentioned in my last post that the almost-12-year-old middle daughter is the resident worrier around here. She’s also especially helpful when we work cattle.

Her job is to wait for a calf or cow to enter the chute…

with a smile…

and then slide that big, heavy metal bar in behind it, as quickly as possible without getting her fingers pinched, so that they can’t back out.

She also soothes babies…

and mamas alike.

There are some tasks that she doesn’t really care for…like banding the bull calves.

We leave the bull wrangling to Matt & my brother & my dad.

Hi~ I really enjoyed reading through your blog–it's fun to read about other farms. Stop in and visit mine sometime!

Are you on hiatus or something? I've been reading your blog regularly for about 3 years now and it was one of my favorite sites on the web. I'm sad that it seems to have been put aside now, though I understand that life can get in the way. Best wishes for the future; perhaps I can find another similar blog that will pull me in as much as this one did… though I rather doubt it.

  3. Karen – not an intentional hiatus. A combination of "Life" taking over here, and a lack of writing mojo have rendered me a little short on motivation to blog. But I will have something for you this week. Thanks for checking up.
