then hopefully we’re covered for a while.
First there was Madeline’s drowned piglet.
Then, Sunday morning, Matt went out to do chores and found this:
The little shed that we’d moved Madeline’s pigs into had burned to the ground during the night, most likely from a heat lamp that got knocked down or something. Fortunately all of her pigs got out okay and are just fine.
Then today while doing chores, Matt found a dead little calf. Apparently our cow Carmel had aborted a month early for some reason. Very strange. We’ve had her for 3 or 4 years now, and she’s never had any calving troubles. Combined with the cow we lost in January, this of course really affects the number of calves we’ll have to market 18 months from now.

How terrible, I’m so sorry. At least the piggies got out okay and no one was hurt. Wishing you brighter days ahead!
Ahh that just stinks! Praise God the fire didnt’ spread and the piggys got out!
how terrible. I’m glad all the piglets got out – and hopefully Carmel will recover and have another calf next year. Hopefully that is it for you folks for awhile!!Take care,Kris
My buddy said that bad things always happens to him in threes. If one calf dies, usually 2 more die after that. Sorry that happened. So good that the pigs got out. I guess all anyone can do is keep their head up and keep on truckin. Thats what I tell myself, “What happens, happens”…He promises to never give us more than we can handle. Although most times I don’t have the faith to believe it.
Glad Maddie didn’t have to go through another piggie loss. Sorry about Carmel’s calf. Said a prayer for your family this morning during quiet time. I hope God see’s fit to make things better. Blessings
Sorry to hear about your bad luck.Glad the piglets are okay however.Praying that you will have a light at the end of the tunnel.Happy Easter
Dang ya’ll…hope that string is broke.peace
Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement – it means so much! Madeline was quite upset about the fire. But I told her to be grateful – her pigs were okay, nothing else caught on fire, and it was just a little shed we paid a couple hundred dollars for. Hopefully she is learning resiliance, learning that mistakes happen, we deal with them, and move on.
