This may be a dumb question, but I am a city girl, so here goes….what makes the eggs brown?

we have identical eggs! 🙂 it’s amazing that chickens everywhere have all decided to end their “winter strike” and begin producing again. i’m once again begging for people to save their egg cartons in exchange for free eggs!~liz

  4. rebecca – different breeds lay different colors of eggs. There’s that egg to the right which is blue. Those come from Araucana/Americauna. There’s no difference in the taste or nutrition of different colored eggs.liz – after such a long time without eggs, I’m not giving anything away yet 🙂

I’ve been getting plenty of eggs down here but now with the warmer temps, I have about 10 chickens that are wanting to set everyday. I have to go get eggs a couple times a day now because they won’t get off them. I’ve been letting one set a week, putting about 10-12 eggs under them so that we can have some crazy looking chicks. So far I have got 16 chicks with 10-12 coming Monday, and 10-12 that next Monday. I guess pretty soon I’ll be giving them away, but not my eggs.

I love how you didn’t bother to wipe down the eggs before taking this picture. They just have that natural farm look. Our pullets started laying last month when they were 18 weeks old. I now get between 6-9 eggs per day! For the first couple weeks I was so protective our our egg bounty, but now that we are getting more eggs, I’m starting to sell a a few.It does feel good letting the chickens start paying for their feed. haha
