Organic seed alliance wants to stop ‘Roundup-ready’ beets

“The suit was filed after USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) approved the use of a new type of genetically altered sugar beet that is resistant to the herbicide Roundup. The plaintiffs are concerned it could lead to the creation of Roundup-resistant ‘super weeds.'”

    That article on top regarding Chef Jamie Oliver is fascinating. Be sure to check it out. THAT concept will be a major revival point for local, authentic agriculture.

  2. It’s certainly an interesting concept. People really do need to see what goes into producing the food they eat. We watched an Independent Lens episode about a young Muslim in New York that is taking over his father’s halal slaughter business. It was fascinating. People would come, pick out their (live) goat or sheep and then it would be slaughtered right there on the spot. And the whole family came along, and you’d have the kids in the slaughter house and Dad videotaping them. It was quite the fun family outing.
