Farmers pay a very high price for their privilege of living on the land and bringing up their families in the cycle of nature. The risk is even more than uncertain prices and the chance that disease or disaster can strike — it's also the cold, pre-dawn jobs like this one and the dangerous machinery. It's hard for someone looking at the beautiful pictures to imagine how physically and mentally tough farmers have to be.We in the city love to go to the farmers market and buy a bunch of sunflowers or some farm fresh eggs. It makes us smile and feel close to the land. But we're not. We are being given a gift, a piece of somebody else's difficult and beautiful life.Farm families are heros just for doing what they do every day. They really earn their place on the earth.
